Twelve Kreise, one compact city
Zurich is small enough to cross by tram in half an hour and varied enough to feel like several cities. Kreis 1 holds the Altstadt and Bahnhofstrasse; Kreis 4 and Kreis 5 bring the bars, studios and converted industrial halls around Langstrasse and in Zürich West; Seefeld, Enge and Wollishofen follow the lake; Oerlikon and Altstetten have grown into towns of their own. Each has its own bakeries, practices and specialists, and locals tend to stay loyal to them.

We publish rankings in twelve fields, from food and drink, hotels and shopping to health, education, legal and financial services, sport and culture. Each ranking deals with one type of business, so the comparison always makes sense.
Who reads it
Our readers are people about to make a decision: a family looking for a paediatrician after moving from abroad, a professional who needs a notary or a fiduciary at short notice, someone planning dinner for visiting colleagues, a resident who simply wants a better bike shop. We write in English because so much of Zurich lives and works in it, alongside Swiss German.
Our editorial routine
Every category is researched across the whole city. We favour businesses whose reputation has held steady over the years, confirm that addresses, phone numbers and hours are current, and keep only the places that genuinely stand out. Nothing in the guide is lifted from a brochure.
